Solar systems generate electricity during the day when energy demand is often highest. By using your own electricity instead of buying it from the grid, many households significantly reduce their long-term power costs.
This is a guide—not a system design.
Every property has different requirements. We tailor design your system before you commit.
Typical paybacks are less than 10 years. We will work with you to optimise your investment and your payback so that it’s just right for you.
Every home is different, but most residential solar systems fall into one of the ranges below. The calculator will estimate system performance and potential savings based on typical New Zealand conditions.
A well-designed solar system can generate a large portion of your household electricity needs during daylight hours.
This estimate shows how much electricity your system could produce each year and how much of your daily usage it may offset.

These estimates are based on typical assumptions.
We use detailed modelling to design systems specific to your property.
Generating your own electricity reduces reliance on the grid and helps protect against rising power prices.
Over the life of the system, this can significantly reduce the total amount spent on electricity.

If your solar system produces more electricity than your home is using, the excess energy can be exported back to the grid.
Electricity retailers may offer buy-back rates for exported energy, providing an additional benefit from your system.

Homes with solar energy systems can be more attractive to buyers due to lower running costs and improved energy efficiency.
Solar also prepares homes for future energy needs such as electric vehicle charging and battery storage.

Estimated solar generation is calculated by multiplying the number of estimated panels, the wattage of each panel, and the average number of sunshine hours per day. This calculation is based on a $0.30 per kWh electricity rate for the first year and is calculated by considering a 3.0% increase in energy cost each year, due to trends in the raising cost of energy, and is projected over a period of one year and twenty five years.
Based on the information provided, a solar system could generate a significant portion of your household electricity during the day.
This can reduce the amount of electricity you need to purchase from your retailer and lower your long-term power costs.
Solar systems typically produce electricity for 25–30 years or more.
Over that time, rising electricity prices mean the value of the energy your system produces can continue to increase.
This chart illustrates how solar savings may grow over time.
These results are estimates based on typical solar production in New Zealand. Actual performance will depend on roof orientation, shading, electricity usage patterns and system design.
For a more accurate estimate we recommend requesting a personalised solar assessment.
Our team can review your roof layout, electricity usage and energy goals to design a system that delivers the best performance and financial return.
